Internship/Transition to Employment
We are seeking candidates who are currently in Nursing School. Currently seeking 2024-2025 graduates who are still seeking internship/employment opportunities upon graduation. Ideal candidate is about six-months away from graduation date to begin as a Nurse Rehabilitation Tech (NRT) and upon graduation/passing of NCLEX, will move into a one-year contract with Medasource as a Registered Nurse (RN). 2025 graduates are also encouraged to apply . This position offers mentorship opportunities from internal Medasource team members who are current, practicing Registered Nurses and from hospital Registered Nursing staff.

Summary/Purpose of Job
- This position exists to provide selected direct and indirect patient care activities for those members of the rehabilitation population from age 15 upward not in need of constant attention of a licensed professional. The incumbent functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team under the direct supervision of a licensed rehab team member, to provide patient services with the prospect of transitioning into an RN role. The Elevate Student Nurse Rehab Tech performs all duties associated with the NRT and NRT II position.
- The Student NRT understands and exhibits the principals of services excellence, ensures patient safety, accepts feedback to grow as a clinician, mentors others in the performance of their assigned duties, and remains dedicated to their future RN role. Additionally, understands that every employee is responsible for exhibiting exceptional customer service by answering call lights on the nursing unit and if not able to assist personally, will inform the appropriate employee regarding the patient's need.
- Understands the role of employee's individual position regarding HIPAA requirements and level of access to Protected Health Information as defined in HIPAA hospital-wide policies.
- Understands that it is the responsibility of every staff member to provide patient safety as a priority response according to our client's evidence-based practices. Encourages patients to be actively involved in their own care as patient safety strategy.
Job Duties/Essential Functions
- Observes and reports patient comfort and safety needs, potential problems, and behaviors with an awareness of the needs of the patient in order to provide input to the staff nurse in an organized and efficient manner for use in patient assessment and care of planning. Recognizes and reports changes in patient's health status. Understands and follows patient plan of care, within job limitations, including completions of items on the tech assignment sheet and completes other unit duties as assigned or unassigned.
- Administers personal care to patients, including (but not limited to): eating, grooming, bathing, showering, toileting, repositioning, transferring, and skin care. The Student NRT will be trained to perform additional tasks within their scope of practice and under the direction of the Nurse. Tasts may include (but not limited to): simple dry-dressing changes, feeding tube site care, bolus feedings, catheterization and water flushes.
- Demonstrates fundamental understanding of rehabilitation concepts to meet elimination, nutritional and psychosocial needs of assigned patients. Demonstrates ability to care for patients at all developmental and cognitive levels with patience and tact. Encourages patients to be active in their care.
- Responds consistently to direction of licensed clinical professionals in a positive manner. Demonstrates good judgement in setting own priorities in adapting work schedules and assignments. Responds quickly to call lights for all patients and offers other team members help without them asking.
- Ensures that patient transfers and mobility needs are met efficiently and safely.
- Identifies need and participates in patient teaching recognizing own limitations and reinforcing previous teaching done by staff.
- Participates in continuous quality improvement/program evaluation activities and observes measures to ensure that hospital, Joint Commission, and other quality standards are met.
- Uses appropriate technique in performing duties to avoid or minimize accidents and injury related to unsafe practice. Proactively seeks information and resources, including Environment of Care Manual, to aid in safe performance of duties to contribute to our client's culture of safety.
- Employee is focused on providing customer satisfaction (including, but not limited to, patients, coworkers, visitors, vendors, and physicians) as a primary goal/outcome of all interactions; places customer first in the performance of job duties and responds to needs in a timely manner as evidenced by the absence of legitimate customer complaints.
- Document completion of routine and ordered patient care tasts per Student NRT job scope in the patient's Electronic Medical Record.

Qualifications
- KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
- Incumbent must have excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills, ability and desire to work under direction of a licensed professional. Requires sufficient knowledge to assess own needs and observe and report changes in patient status. Requires general awareness of legal implications of patient care activities. Requires the ability to lift 80-100 lbs and assist other in heavier lifting with or without assistive devices. Bilingual capability (Spanish/English) strongly preferred.
- Nursing school candidates must have successfully completed a minimum of Nursing Fundamentals prior to consideration for this position and provide proof of such completion. Persons continuing professional education in a specific clinical discipline may have the expertise needed for this position.
- Must maintain current CPR certification in accordance with American Heart Association standards. Nursing students must provide proof of minimum completion of Nursing Fundamentals course. Additionally, the Student Nurse Rehab Tech must complete CPI training.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Hospital patient care equipment including (but not limited to): laptops, beds, wheelchairs, toileting/showering devices, lift devices, therapy equipment as instructed, bladder scanner, glucometer, scale/weight and measurement devices based on patient needs.
