What You Will Do

Reporting to the Wellness Team Leader, this position provides preventive and rehabilitative institutional occupational safety and health services and programming, including, but not limited to, institutional wellness motivational programs, health and nutrition education classes and events, injury prevention training, surveillance medical programming, wellness facility operations and programming.

This position's primary job role is required to provide exceptional customer service through the support of the operational and programmatic functions within the Wellness Team.

Occupational Safety and Health Professional 1 ($43,000-$66,500)

An entry level professional with a general understanding of health, fitness, and injury prevention plus working knowledge of other related fields. Can resolve a wide range of issues with guidance and support. This job is a fully qualified, career-oriented, entry-level position. Can display leadership required for a multi-disciplinary environment.

Receives detailed functional and operational direction from the wellness center manager.

Occupational Safety and Health Professional 2 ($47,400-$73,200)

A seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of nutrition and dietetics plus working knowledge of other related fields. Resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways. This job is a fully qualified, career-oriented, journey-level position. Experienced leadership required for a multi-disciplinary environment.

Receives limited functional and operational direction from the wellness center manager.
What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Basic knowledge of and experience providing supervision and instruction to members of a health and fitness facility or corporate wellness setting.
  • Basic knowledge of health, fitness, nutrition, and injury prevention consultations.
  • Ability to foster exceptional customer service with member interactions through group exercise classes, health, fitness, and/or nutrition consultations, and facility coverage duties.
  • Basic knowledge of and experience with health and fitness, patient advocacy, and occupational health issues including protection of patient health information.
  • Ability to foster a high-level of operational excellence for late evening closing of the Wellness Center facility.
Training/Certifications: Current certifications and/or license by a nationally accredited agency in Health, Nutrition, Fitness, and/or Wellness through ACSM, NSCA, NASM, ACE, CDR, or in the process of obtaining.

Additional Requirements for the Occupational Safety and Health Professional 2:
  • Intermediate experience in exercise program design and exercise testing.
  • Intermediate knowledge and experience in the preparation and education of health, fitness, and/or nutrition working with individuals within a corporate wellness setting to include recommendations, referrals, and follow-ups.
  • Intermediate knowledge in the preparation and presentation of topics related, but not limited to lifestyle modification and intervention to both small groups and large groups.
Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a Bachelor's degree and 2 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires Bachelor's degree and 5 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of and experience with provision of health promotion, preventive medicine, and health education initiatives.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer use, office software, and web interfaces.
  • Strong customer focus with ability to interact, communicate and influence a large cross section of colleagues, customers, and stakeholders.
  • Current certification in First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS).
Work Environment:

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
